The VAIO TP line of media centers is yet to be released but they have posted the specs online and showed them at the CES convention. Sony took a design chance on this one; it is unlike any other Media Center PC. Instead of looking like a home entertainment center component it is round and white.
It has a Core Duo processor, 2 GB of RAM and a 300 GB hard drive. This is enough memory for nearly all media uses, but it would have been better if they had included a Core 2 Duo processor. Like most small systems, this Sony has integrated graphics and audio elements for efficiency.
When this media center becomes available it will come pre–installed with Windows Vista and 2GB of RAM is enough to run Vista well. It will have a versatile HDMI connector as well as four USB ports, an SD slot and a dual TV tuner.
The VAIO is expected to retail for around $1600 and although this is low priced for a media center, we would like to see better core components, like a better processor and graphic card.
